This is "highlights" of stuff I drew on the trip to California. This little sketchbook started new the day of the trip and got half-filled by the time I got on the plane back. Admittedly there's a lot of horrible scribbly crap, what with episodes of drunkenness, and notes on the whole artist alley thing. But still.

While I doubt I'll do anything with this sketch, I like her dress. A lot. Gotta use it in something else sometime.

The first night I ended up getting given a screwdriver mixed by [livejournal.com profile] prickvixen. Shortly afterwards I think someone must have said "Draw me a yiffy vixen, Peggy!".

This is always a bad idea. The only yiffy vixens I draw with that prompting are the defective ones.

In the hotel lobby, the natural prey of the fursuiter is the guy with the video camera and the comb-over.

"Drunk bird thing" as in "bird thing I drew when I was drunk", not "bird thing that is drunk". This made me laugh for a lot longer than it really should have.

I think this was doodled on the second day. I'm not sure. Yes, there's other stuff in pencil beneath the pen doodling.

This is one of the few drawings I've done of Peganthyrus in recent memory where she's actually acknowledging the viewer. I noticed that a while back.

"...I guess I draw mostly in a mix of Walt Kelly and Matt Groening." - [livejournal.com profile] bluerain
"*evil chortle* *draw in the nearest sketchbook*" - me

(sorry I never got ahold of your Joe/Raine book!)

Doodling on the hotel notepad with the hotel pen. The Doubletree logo looked just enough like a butt that I had to ruin it!

This is what I did in [livejournal.com profile] kaputotter's sketchbook. The theme was "grrls" and the only instruction was 'try to stick to mammals'. Which I guess explains the raccoon in a cobra fursuit.

I think this was warm-up for what I did in [livejournal.com profile] athelind's sketchbook. Just playing around with the general topic, to loosen up.

I know this was the initial rough for what I did in [livejournal.com profile] jirris_midvale's sketchbook.

I think this was stuff done on the last day of the con, sitting around and not quite chatting. Slightly drunk but not enough to really fuck up my drawing. Chunky antelope!

Probably yet another self-portrait.

I really ought to doodle with this kind of pen more; it somehow doesn't seem to preclude underdrawing like some other pens do for me.

Based on an image in [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle's sketchbooks.

Pretty much the last thing I drew before packing up and going to [livejournal.com profile] paka and [livejournal.com profile] perlandria's place to crash for the night. I dunno, I just looked at the marker and the white pencil in my little art box, filled most of the page with black, then doodled randomly in white.

If I drew stuff in your sketchbook I'd love to have a scan. Especially the things that made me make wisecracks about a "really complicated character" surcharge next con. Don't worry about stitching it together if it's bigger than your scanner bed; just send me several scans with an inch or so of overlap. I've gotten pretty good at stitching scans over the years.

Addendum: [livejournal.com profile] mutleyjames took one of the insane drunken sketches in this post and finished it. It is even more magically retarded than my original drawing, and that's a good thing!
Also, [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle posted a link to the image that inspired the tub-spider. Yay collaboration!

Not in the published drawings...!

(actually, while I remember there being some ominous images in the collection of non-kid's-book Seuss paintings that came out a while back, I think most of them were pretty much as happy as the rest of his work.)

I'm sorry, Drunk Bird Thing will always be a portrait of [profile] tengoo to me. :)

Is the purple one with the mask and machinery inspired by what I think?

Hogod sketches. That drunk bird makes me giggle too. Though my favorites are all the spider-people you've been doodling up.

You got me into trying to expand my sketches also, so thank you! <3 <3

I tend to put that little bit of extra into the spider stuff. It's definitely Not Furry though it has some of the same xenofetishy appeal - and it seems to always require something in the way of background and situation.

And I am glad to inspire people to PUSH FURTHER! It's great when that happens and starts to work.

HOLY SHIT THAT'S AWESOME!

You captured all the imbicelic crudity in my drunken drawing and brought it to a fine polish. THANK YOU! ♥

This is cool! The blue tones work very well. Is it just me or is it implied that the weird shapes under the window are a glowy, cycling energy display of some kind?

I think I had 'stained glass window' in mind when I scribbled it out. But I dunno, I was kinda drunk. It's a blur.

Despite a visit to the Cheesecake Factory during the con, I was just doodling a voluptuous sheep?-girl saying "pie". I don't think I was terribly linguistic by Monday morning, which is when that one got scribbled...

I'll probably do a mass scan this weekend, if my scanner stops making those scary grinding noises; alas, the individual PAGES of my Great Big Sketchbook are bigger than my scanner, so doing the two-page sweep is gonna be even MORE fun. It may wind up in five or six pieces.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who reacted that way to the Doubletree logo; a couple of years ago, Quel was on staff, so we sat through several meetings... with those pads in front of us, just DEMANDING doodles.

Needless to say, mine didn't come out quite so elegantly.

No rush. Like I said, just send me the bits and I can stitch it pretty quickly (and I'll send you back the high-res stitch, if you want a copy lying around). I've done some stuff on a HUGE pad in the past and kinda regretted it, because it was cool art, but a major pain to scan.

I'd never noticed the logo like this before. I was just sitting there with a pad and it kinda... happened. But now I don't think I'll ever see it as anything much else.

The drawing you did in my Mutants book shall be one of the many pictures I plan to scan once I get my scanner working with this brand new computer. (Nothing wrong with it AFAIK, just been too busy to hook it up yet.)

Also, for the benefit of your friends and readers, here's (http://kinkyturtle.livejournal.com/387426.html?thread=3377250#t3378018) the "spider in the bath" image you mentioned above.

As I recall, your reaction was, "Awwww, what a cute spider!"

Oh, I know how that goes - no rush! All this crap I scanned today has been pretty much sitting around since I got back from CA, or the Friday afterwards. Stuff's been busy.

And yeah, that sounds about right. I always feel a little self-conscious when I gush over spiders but they're just so CUTE!

Drunk bird thing—definitely, definitely a sneetch. Probably the best destruction of my childhood memories I've ever seen.
