Hm. I just use the "airport status in menu bar" checkbox. And I have a replacement menu bar clock that drops down a month calendar when I click on it, and talks to iCal. Not that I schedule my life enough in advance to actually use iCal very much!

I switch between Quicksilver and Launchbar. LB is so much lighter and faster, but QS does stuff like take over iTunes hotkey control/track-change popups...
