New small-sized sketchbook. It's one of those yuppified "Moleskine" books, purchased at the art store in Santa Cruz by Sammi. We were vaguely curious about them, and thought it'd be amusing to mock them. They're not bad, and nice to draw in with a pen texturally, but too small for one to actually work for me - I need to use something with a smaller point than a fountain pen, at that scale. It does, however, fit perfectly in my coat pocket.. So I'm filling it up with mechanical pencil doodles.

It's a nice little sketchbook, but it makes me feel like a trendoid, and it costs a bit much. But it is cute. It's also easier to scan than my usual books 'cause it lies flatter.

Late last night - something like 1AM - I went over to Ashy's place. We got a little drunk, I doodled some, we talked. We had vile donuts from 7-11.

Here's some doodles from this weekend and yesternight.

Moody = drawing my dormant Bitchy Mask, Sosael/Atazael. Far from the best drawing of her but there's something I just kinda like.

I was talking about artists fetishizing their tools because of this new sketchbook, and the other example is, of course, the Blackwing. Its distinctive shape is part of the appeal, and easier to draw than describe.

Weird things doodled while waiting for food at the Saturn Cafe.

Drawn at Ashy's. Greta vonLyte and her cubist ass. No, really. Her body and her legs are for an ass pointing the opposite direction to what I drew. I like it that way.

There was another nicely done doodle at Ashy's last night, but it's a rough for an upcoming birthday thing, so it can't be shown.

Moleskines...

One of the blogs I read about GTD (http://43folders.com) goes on and on at length about Moleskines and the 'Hipster PDA' (a stack of 3x5 cards) - So much so, I actually stopped in at the local Borders and spent a while trying to 'get it' - with little success. Maybe if I was less technical and more artistic.

Nice roughs, BTW. I'm especially fond of #2 - Not so excited by the Blackwing, but again... :)

Yeah, it's that sort of thing that pushed them into my awareness, too. I think the cult of the Moleskine is kind of an example of fetishizing the tools and process, in lieu of, well, actually getting something done.

Yeah - I know how THAT feels - I'm in one of those horrible 'I'd rather do anything than what I HAVE to do' ruts - and the idea of sifting through my 'To do's is just way too tempting. :(
