I know I know I know everyone does this when they get these things going. But hey! I managed to start to figure out how to make crap like insect eye goggles and t-shirts and stuff! And saw some other interesting things. I promise I won't post an assload more of these kinds of things, honest. Also, I think I'm doing this to avoid really sitting down and thinking about the fact that the next piece of art I do and put online will have about 400 people looking at it, when I roughly estimate live LJ accounts watching me + live DA accounts now watching me - secondary accounts + people who don't watch me in ways that are as easily tallied.

Second Life: 3
I went to visit [livejournal.com profile] protocat in one of the furry enclaves.
Second Life: 4
I met someone who had a pretty happening drider costume. It animated when she walked and everything. There's a red hourglass on the underside, but you can't see it.
Second Life: 5
Behold my new label. "Jackbooted Thug Mechanique Thirty". And my happening Toy Spider t-shirt. I think I'm going to keep the "Mechanique" name rather than see if it can be changed.

I find this thing just demands attention in a way a muck doesn't. Partially because even idle, it's sitting there using 70% of my processor power...

I'm just glad it seemed like you had a good time tonight despite the occasional crash. I'm serious when I say you pretty much hit the ground running on your first day and if it even remotely holds your interest, you'll be up to some cool stuff.

But not rulling like Neill "made Metal Slug tanks on his first day" Paratzo!

I was mostly amused by it all, yeah. New toy. Lazy ways to make things. I have a couple idea for silly outfits to hack up once I get the hang of modelling...

I can't even get the thing to run myself, it keeps complaining about AGP...

Problem is...I have a pci-express card.

Date: 2005-03-15 06:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] protocat.livejournal.com
PCI Express cards work just fine with SL, provided your motherboard's BIOS is current; as earlier motherboards were rather glitchy with their PCIe implimentation. Second Life will work even with basic PCI cards, provided they're at all semi-modern. Just don't expect AGP Acceleration to be enabled or such, even some cases with AGP cards, it won't be enabled depending on the card and in some cases, drivers/BIOS, etc.

If you actually have an account, I'd suggest checking out the forums, as you need your login info to view there for possibly additional support.

SL is also buggy, so even though all of the above is true..

. . . I'd just like to know more about this software.

Oooh, that place looks nifty. I heart construction with nonrealistic textures. :)

Here's my wuffy. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/unciaa/100538.html) Dabadee dabadaa and all that.

Yeah. If I had my way, I'd just exempt my avatar from shadowing. I want to be a flat, graphic thing, damnit! I saw someone wearing a very stark shading-avoidant Snoopy costume last night, but I didn't ask 'em how they did it.

Go here for all the details. It needs a lot of computer to actually work worth a damn; mine is far too slow, and the framerate is hideous.

Kill local lighting. It easily trippled my framerate with +3 people around. Alas, it also looks less pretty.

"Hmmm," I said, looking at the list of checkboxes in the prefs, before I actually connected. "I think I'll turn these off. It says it runs slower with them on."

I still get low, jumpy framerates. It's just more than my machine really has the CPU for.

I paid for it! :D Um, do you know of any place to get some good stylish clothing? I'm in desperate need of some T_T;

*is the sorta-furry that hangs out with the furrys, like the non-smoker that goes on smoke breaks :x*

I have no clue. Except for the stockings and shoes, everything I'm wearing in these own shots is my own work...

wow. Those are impressive avatars they made. Every other time I see the furry pictures from Secound life, they're really errie and poorly made.

Are you referring to the "feline texture over human shape (http://us.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Kathmandu/Second%20Life/index01-by-date.html)" avatars? Those creep me out. o.o;;

I've managed to actually find ways to ignore the fact that SL is running...

Enough to find out that (at least on the Windows version) if you leave it minimized for too long, it stops responding and you have to kill the process off.
