GTA3.

Another weekend got lost to it. Something like the third in a row. Ashy says she's going to take it to the video game store today and sell it, just get it out of our lives.

It's a fine, deep, well-made game, but that's the problem. It's too open-ended. Get frustrated with a mission and there's other missions to do, side stuff to track down, self-invented diversions. And before you know it you've played it for twelve hours straight, instead of anything else you may have intended to do today.

Maybe now I'll be able to spend some time on weekends working on 'Drowning City', experimenting to see if my ambitious plans for painting the thing in the computer are completely insane; doing a few lagging comissions; something at least semi-creative instead of sitting on my ass in front of the TV for hours and hours.

*ponders sending you Vice City, anonymously in a plain brown wrapper, such that the DEA doesn't intercept it* }:)

Well, if you really want to, sure. It'll just get taken to the video game store and sold, or go to eBay, unopened... I know better now. (Oddly enough, GTA2 was fun, but not in this life-sucking. I think the vastly-increased realism and open-endedness is a definite factor.)

If you just want to throw away your money, just send the cold hard cash. *grin*

Naaah, I've got my hands full trying to keep [personal profile] postrodent away from Neocron... I actually had more fun with GTA2, but only because my pathetic 8-bit brain had an easier time with the controls. I have mad respect for GTA3, and if Vice City had been 60's Mod themed like that GTA London expansion instead of a tacky Miami Vice trib, I would've crumpled before its majesty.

Neocron?

If I ever find occasion to draw you, I shall have to use mod trappings as a break from the usual... um... whatever the usual things people put in drawings purporting to be you are.

Neocron, I think that's what it's called: cyberpunk EverQuest = postrodent freebase. Every drawing of Kincaid so far has been nude, which isn't necessarily a trend I'm in a hurry to reverse, but I've always had a weakness for Andre Courreges, Paco Rabanne, and Pierre Cardin when he was still a freak, and pretty much anything here, so what the hell...

I was thinking they ought to do a GTA3 variant set in Al Capone's Chicago. Model Ts and Tommy guns.

It's for the PC, unfortunately... but given its success, maybe it'll make it to consoles.

Damn, you beat me to it. I was hoping for 70's blaxploitation, actually. The media backlash would be terrible, but when has that ever stopped Rockstar before?

Everyone's entitled to an off day, right? Or month, or year.

My writing teacher told me once that you can only put into your creative works what you take out of real life; if you don't have anything to draw from, your fiction or art or what have you will be quite dull. It's a good justification, innit? ;)

Take care.

Oh, I think there's a lot of me in my plans for this comic - more than I've let on in my now-and-then fragmentary descriptions. I almost feel like I have to do it rather than it being something I want to do.

Besides, the only thing playing GTA3 is likely to generate is warmed-over gangster fantasies.

When one mechanically assassinates 300 mafiosi in a row with a sniper rifle, and follows it by strafing stretch limousines with an M-16 until they explode, it's time for some sort of intervention. Or in this case, self-intervention....

I just got GTA3 a week ago. It is such a great game for stress relief. I can spend hours just trying to find more spectacular ways to crash different vehicles. :)

In that case, never ever get Morrowind. o_o

Now that I have discovered the ecstasy that is the construction set and plug-ins downloaded from the 'net... I don't think I'll ever leave the house again. XP

"for PC and Xbox" (morrowind.com)

Well, I'm safe from that one, having neither.
