So I was slouching around on Furrymuck yesterday, putting off Important Stuff, when [livejournal.com profile] tugrik asked me for a favor - he'd just realized it was [livejournal.com profile] revar's birthday THAT DAY, not next week. He asked me to draw her in my own slinky cartoon-noir way, maybe a little monstery. I owe Tug some favors, so I did.

Design-wise, I tried to stay away from the illustrations Zjonni had done for the original Watts Martin stories the character came from; for a while, it seemed like that was the only way anyone in the world-o-furry knew to draw bats. Not working texturally helped to push it into my direction, of course. As did shamelessly stealing a few of Mike Mignola's tricks.

It will hopefully get colored sometime soon, because it kinda needs it. I might re-ink it, in fact; I had to use a thicker pen than I wanted, because the one I was going to use needs cleaning. *sigh*

.7mm marker pen, floodfill.

[ a little later: I just went to test the pen I originally wanted to use, and it's working now. Yay! I guess I just needed to give it time for the ink from the new cartridge to propagate down to the tip and start flowing, or something. Time to re-ink. Should go faster this time since I'm not fighting the pen. Good thing the pencils involved pasting over a post-it, which forced me to ink onto a separate piece of paper with the lightbox. ]

This version of Revar reminds me a little bit of Chuck Melville's style. Very thin and gothic (in a good way). Thanks for sharing this.

I needed something to support the foot in that pose! Thanks mostly go to Tug, he's the one who said 'please draw Revar'.

Lovely image.

The ears in particular strike my fancy.

But now I'm going to have an image of Revar posing like M. Monroe on a subway grate, trapped in my hindbrain for the rest of the month.

Not that that's an entirely bad thing...

Hmm. I wasn't thinking of that at all when I drew it, but it's definitely there. I was just thinking of the interesting composition possible by using the arcs of the wings!

Well, I wasn't thinking of it consciously, at least.
