Is it just that I've been up too long, or is this a really scary attempt at marketing to DA YOOF OF 2DAY?

Yes, I want to promote an upcoming movie with the design of my personal journal. For free! Because it's just so cool to be an unpaid part of a publicity machine!

And the current top entry on the long-abandoned PA blog for the movie is about eating too many donuts. Yep, that's pretty much what blogging/journalling is all about. (I'm not sure if I'm being sarcastic in this paragraph or not.)

It's quite cute, I think. Given that a majority (?) of livejournallers are the same teens that'll go out and watch "S2" (oh ho ho, S2-the-film S2-styles styles?), it pays to pander to their "ooh, cool" factor, even if all their friends will laugh at them.

Anyway, Peter Parker was a proper whiny bitch in the first film, and probably has his own livejournal :)

Good point, maybe I'm just too jaded. I dunno, I would've probably reacted much the same way when I was a teed. But I was always a cynic!

Oh sure, me too. I'm just cynical in the direction of "there are thousands of dumb teens that will think this is cool" :)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels this way ;)

I thought Marvel Comics' trademark was the whiny bitch characters.

So... Umm... which forum group tells me how to make a new stylesheet?

hm, well, in short, since you're a free user, you can't... you can do some customization to the system-provided ones (old style method basic docs, new style method basic docs, gateway to picking an existing style/customizing it) but you can't make one from scratch. Or install one of these Spider-styles. *g*

Well, that sounds like that's only a temp. problem, really. So if I get a subscription, I can make a fancy shmoo. Okay.

Be warned - it's a royal pain to make one from scratch. I started making one a while back and gave up. You can do a fair amount of modification as a free user under S1, less so under S2 (but it's easier).

Given the nature of marketing, I would call this the electroninc equivalent of getting kids to wear t-shirts with the name of your movie on it. So it's anything but a surprise...

I think they have their target audience figured out. People will be making obnoxious LJ styles and animated LJ icons out of that movie, willingly being an unpaid part of a publicity machine anyway. Why not promote it and provide free templates? It's smart, it's fair-use friendly and hopelessly cynical all at the same time. I approve.
