music meme

The 'post some music lyrics' meme is going around again:
edit: I figure that 'cheating', in the context of 'pick the first 25 songs', means skipping over the ones that you feel will make you seem Uncool. "Oh god, nobody needs to know I have a New Kids album. Ker-skip!" is cheating, when you're giving people an 'unedited' glimpse into your musical tastes. Hitting 'next' 2-6 times between tracks with lyrics feels like cheating, to me - I don't have to try and sum up 3-10 minutes of sounds in a few words!
1. [chorus chanting gibberish now and then, not even interesting gibberish, just 'ah ah AH' amongst the ominous orchestra]
2. Bapabum bum. Bapabum bum. Bapabum bum. Catch it for me. Catch it for me. Hello, hello, hello, hello. Softer. (Okay!) I can't hear you! - Art of Noise, E.F.L. (
momentrabbit,
ceruleanst)
3. [no lyrics, occasional Jetsonsian whooshes scattered among the perky lounge-jazz]
4.I'm all dressed up with no-where to go. Walking with a dead man over my shoulder. - Oingo Boingo, 'Dead Man's Party' (
xyzzysqrl)
5. [assorted itchy noises for several minutes, reversed chorus: 'It sanhiburn, nasra'?]
6. In this proud land, we grew up strong; we were wanted all along. I was taught to fight, taught to win - I never thought I could fail - Peter Gabriel, 'Don't Give Up' (
momentrabbit)
7. I came home today, and you'd rearranged all the furniture. And you'd changed your name. - Laurie Anderson (
kinkyturtle)
8. Why can't we dance in the same groove every day? My step starts from 6 to 1, from 6 to 1.
9. ***where to visit, we of us right now. So far. Cosmic... consciousness. (approximation of slurred samples)
10. It is January. [rapid-fire, atonal machine noises] I realized that if my body broke, I would break into blossom. [more rapid fire glitchy sounds]
11. [lots of perky ambience] I'm achin' for you, I'm achin' for you, I'm achin' for you, I'm achin' for you. [lots more perky ambience] - Orbital, 'Style' (
rhinoscillator)
12. [piano with occasional snippy-glitchy percussion]
13. [warm, resonant bleeps slowly cycling over distant percussion]
14. He is doing it! - A grrrreat operation. Only a great surgeon could have done it! [turntablism commences]
15. I'm gonna kiss your eyes. Then I'm gonna kiss your neck. Then I'm gonna kiss your tummy. Then I'm gonna kiss your PINEAPPLE. -WHOOOOOO! - B52's, 'Strobe Light' (
nicked_metal)
16. [pseudo-trumpet leading into marital drums over helicopter noises]
17. [spooky soundscape with nervous marimba and feedback] [distorted voices buried too deep in the mix to make out]
18. I'll make love to you in all good places. Under black mountains in open spaces. By deep brown rivers that slither darkly, through far marches where the blue hare races. - Jethro Tull (
wolfwings)
19. [gentle pseudo-Gaelic synths in a pseudo-Asian scale]
20. I'm an outsider, outside of everything. Everything you know, everything you know, it disturbs me so. - Ramones, 'Outsider' (
kensan_oni)
21. Don't believe in everything you hear. Don't believe in everything you hear. Don't believe in everything you see. Don't believe. Don't believe in everything you know. Don't believe there's nowhere you can go. Don't believe in anybody else. Don't believe in yourself.
22. Hmm hmm, mm hmm hmm, mm hmm hmm. Ohh ahh, nyaoaoaoao ah hai.
23. Is. This. Thing. Called Jazz! [Several minutes of backwards broken jazz follow.] - Amon Tobin, 'The New York Editor' (
rhinoscillator)
24. [shimmering, angelic synths pulled into hyperspace by a high-BPM locomotive of drums and glitches that explodes in slow motion]
25. [loping, twisty c64 beats, with drifty, awkward pseudo-horn now and then]
Also, in entirely unrelated news, trying to read LJ via an RSS reader sucks. They all strip out a lot of the semantic content like 'who wrote this' and 'what icon they used'.
Put your MP3 player or whatever on shuffle and list a lyric from the first 25 songs that come up (without cheating) and invite people to guess the song. GOOGLING IS CHEATING.I tried doing it, I really did. But this is what I get when I hit 'next track' several times. If anyone gets most of these, I will be amazed.
